FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why do I have to fill out forms?
When you complete your intake form, you provide a brief health history and your written consent to receive massage. This documentation allows us to provide you with customized care, which may include modified massage techniques for specific health concerns. To make the process easy, we send a link to an electronic intake form to all first time clients. Typically, it takes 5-10 minutes to fill this out using a mobile device or computer. And yes, we have paper forms if you prefer those. These records will be kept strictly confidential.
What is MassageBook? Should I make an account?
MassageBook is our scheduling and billing software. Making online appointments will require you to make a free MassageBook account, which is easy and comparable to many other websites. If you don't want to make an account, please call or email us to schedule appointments.
Where do I park?
Street parking is generally available along Hennepin Avenue and nearby side streets. Please note that our neighborhood hosts numerous festivals and block parties throughout the warm months, so it may be advisable to budget a few extra minutes for parking in Summer. Bike racks are available at the intersection of 32nd and Hennepin, just south of our building.
Is there public transit nearby?
Yes. The #6 Metrotransit bus stops on our block. The #21 bus stops two blocks away. We are located 4 blocks south of the Uptown Transit Center. Plan your Metrotransit trip here.
What do I wear?
You get to decide. Clients are asked to undress to their comfort level—for most this means down to their undergarments, without a bra to make the back accessible. We use sheets to drape the body so that only the area we are working on (back, leg, arm) is uncovered during the massage. Draping is required for all sessions.
Do you do couples massage?
At this time, our work space allows for only one client at a time so we are unable to book couples massages.
Allergies and sensitivities?
We use fragrance free massage oil, and massage lotions that are labeled as fragrance free and hypoallergenic. Our linens are laundered in hot water with a double rinse using a fragrance free detergent. Please let us know in advance if you are concerned about ingredients and their safety. We are located in a well-maintained and charming, but old building. There is carpeting, and other businesses operate here. We cannot guarantee that it is an allergen free space.
Are there contraindications?
Yes. Although massage is generally safe, there are health conditions that require postponement or modification of massage. This is why it is necessary to complete an intake form and discuss any health conditions or medications with your therapist.
If you are under a doctor’s care, we recommend that you ask them about potential risks and benefits of massage for you.
Gift certificates?
We offer electronic gift certificates for all of our services. They never expire. If you would rather have a postcard sent to you or to the recipient, please give us a call.
Accessibility?
Our space is located on the second floor, and we do not have an elevator. Because this limits our ability to provide massage to everyone, we are working hard to add in-home massage to our menu of services. We appreciate your patience while we grow and become more inclusive. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to accommodate your needs in our space.
What will happen?
Please see our What to Expect at Your Session page for details.
What do I do during my massage?
Most clients prefer to take a deep breath, close their eyes and just relax during their massage. It is okay to space out or even fall asleep. In this case, your therapist will speak to you only as needed to confirm that you are safe and comfortable.
Some clients prefer a more interactive experience, and want their therapist to tell them about the specific muscles they are working on, specific massage techniques, and suggestions for self-care. We are always happy to respond to questions about your massage any time, so do not hesitate to speak up!
How do I pay?
Cash, checks and debit/credit cards.
What if I’m late?
If you are late for your appointment, we may need to cut the session short or ask you to reschedule in order to stay on schedule for subsequent clients. We understand that unpredictable things happen now and then, and we will make every effort to be flexible. If you are running late, please call or text us so we can make alternate plans as needed.
Cancellations?
If you must cancel, please notify us as soon as possible. We request a minimum of four hours notice for all cancellations.
Do you take insurance?
No. We will provide you with a receipt for every session. If you need modifications to your receipt for use with a FSA or HSA, please let us know.
Do you provide massage services to children?
No, our practice is for all people 18 years old and up.
Music?
We tend to play soft, comforting music in our massage room. But we do take requests! We have access to playlists in just about any genre you can think of, and we love all kinds of music. If you have never had a massage before, consider allowing our relaxing music to play. Sometimes our favorite music gets us pumped up and is not relaxing.
